I’m Dar Birenbaum, a photographer and artist based in Leipzig, Germany.

My relationship with photography began early. I first picked up a camera at the age of seven, and later discovered analog photography - a process that shaped the way I look at images, light and the act of capturing a moment.

Over the years, photography developed from a personal practice into my profession. Today, my work combines digital and analog approaches, drawing on different cameras, lenses, lighting methods and editing techniques, as well as years of hands-on experience.

A significant part of my practice has developed around artists, artworks and cultural spaces. I photograph paintings, works on paper, sculpture and installations, as well as exhibitions, studios and the people behind the work.

Working with artists has taught me to approach photography not simply as documentation, but as a form of translation. The aim is to create an image that is technically precise while remaining faithful to the material, scale, colour and atmosphere of the original work.

Alongside artwork reproduction and exhibition photography, I create portraits and visual documentation for artists, galleries and cultural projects.

Whether I am photographing a single artwork, an exhibition space or an artist in their studio, I try to work quietly and attentively, allowing the character of the work and the person behind it to remain at the center of the image.
